Alonzo C. Brandon
Vice President for University Advancement
Alonzo Brandon is the Vice President for University Advancement for Old Dominion University (ODU) and Executive Director for Foundations. University Advancement serves as the outreach arm of the institution, and in this role, Brandon oversees the offices of Development, Alumni Relations, Community Engagement, Foundations, University Events and Licensing.
Previously, Brandon served as Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and Executive Director for Foundations for 7 years. He began working in the development office in 1993 and became Director of Development in 1999. He oversaw the university’s most successful capital campaign, which raised more than $104 million. Under his leadership, ODU received its largest gift ever – $32 million from Landmark Communications founder Frank Batten. Another significant gift was $11 million from the Strome Family Foundation to launch the Strome Entrepreneurial Center. In 2013, Brandon was instrumental in launching the CIVIC Scholars Program, a partnership between ODU and the CIVIC Leadership Institute.
Brandon is a 1985 graduate of ODU with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is a member of the Boards of Directors of the CIVIC Leadership Institute and the Virginia Arts Festival. Prior to joining the university, he served as president of Full Court Press Inc.; publisher of InStyle Magazine, a local Hampton Roads publication; and founded InSyte Advertising, which published a magazine and offered related services.
